Furniture Design School

Fall 2020 | Instructor Stephen Duff | Marissa Perez

The Furniture Design School project was the M. Arch's first introductory studio project located in the heart of Eugene, Oregon next to the landmark, Skinner's Butte. The goals of the building were to create a dynamic space that gives the occupants views to the Butte, creates a welcoming public face, and maintains privacy in the design shops.

WHERE

Eugene, Oregon

To achieve these goals, the plan has a central, lofted library space that doubles as a lounge for the students. Surrounding this atrium, are a series of workshops, with the largest on the interior of the building, and the smaller support spaces on the exterior to provide additional work space outdoors if the program needs it. The two building system creates a pathway for the public to host market nights, and enjoy the work of the students, without interfering.
